Why it matters
Why teams choose Strapi.
Strapi is the most starred open-source headless CMS on GitHub for a reason — it hits the right balance between developer flexibility and editor usability. Developers get a clean API and a configurable backend. Editors get a familiar admin that doesn't require technical knowledge to operate.
For growing organisations that need content editors and developers working in the same system without stepping on each other, Strapi is consistently the right tool.
No per-seat cost
Strapi's Community Edition has no per-seat pricing. Your editorial team can grow from 3 to 30 without triggering a pricing conversation.
Editor-friendly admin
The Strapi admin is a clean, purposeful UI for content editors. No code. No configuration panels. Just the fields they need to publish great content.
API-first by design
REST and GraphQL APIs are auto-generated the moment you define a content type. No custom API code, no configuration — it just works.
Scale without re-architecting
Strapi's plugin system and content type flexibility mean you can add complexity — new locales, new content types, new integrations — without rebuilding.
“Marketing agency replaces WordPress with Strapi + Next.js — editorial team publishing times cut by 60%.”
A digital marketing agency managing content for multiple clients migrated from WordPress to a Strapi + Next.js headless setup. The clean Strapi admin and purpose-built content types cut editorial publishing times by 60% — editors stopped fighting the CMS and started focusing on content.

FAQs
Questions about
Strapi CMS.
What is Strapi CMS and how does it work?
Strapi is an open-source headless CMS — it provides a clean admin panel for content editors and auto-generates REST and GraphQL APIs from the content types you define. Your frontend (Next.js, React, mobile app) fetches content from the Strapi API at build time or runtime. Unlike a traditional CMS like WordPress, Strapi has no opinion about how your content is presented — it only manages and serves it.
Is Strapi CMS free?
Strapi's Community Edition is free and open-source under a permissive licence. There is no per-seat charge for the Community Edition — your entire team can use the admin panel at no additional cost. Strapi also offers a paid Enterprise Edition with additional features (SSO, audit logs, advanced roles), and a managed Strapi Cloud hosting service. For most projects, the Community Edition covers all requirements.
How does Strapi compare to WordPress for a headless build?
WordPress can be used headlessly via its REST API or WPGraphQL plugin, but it wasn't designed for it — the admin is cluttered with presentation concerns, and the API adds overhead. Strapi is API-first by design: the admin is focused purely on content, the APIs are auto-generated and performant, and the content type system is more flexible. For new headless projects, Strapi is almost always the cleaner choice.
What is the difference between Strapi and Contentful?
The core difference is hosting and pricing model. Contentful is a hosted SaaS — your content lives on Contentful servers, and costs scale with seats and API usage. Strapi is open-source and self-hosted — you choose where your content lives and there are no per-seat charges. Strapi also has a visual Content Type Builder that Contentful lacks, and built-in i18n without needing a paid tier.
Can non-technical editors use Strapi?
Yes. The Strapi admin panel is designed for content editors — it presents your content types as clean forms with rich text editors, media uploads, and relationship pickers. Editors don't see schema configuration or API settings. Once a developer has defined the content types, a non-technical editor can create, update, publish, and manage content entirely through the Strapi admin without any code knowledge.
Does Strapi support multiple languages?
Yes. Multi-locale content management (i18n) is built into Strapi core and available in the Community Edition. You can create locale variants of any content type — each field can have separate translations per locale — and the API delivers the correct locale based on the request. We configure i18n as part of the standard build when your project requires it.
Should we use Strapi Cloud or self-host?
Strapi Cloud is the easier option — managed hosting, automatic updates, and no infrastructure to maintain. It makes sense for teams without DevOps capacity or when speed of deployment is the priority. Self-hosting on Railway, Render, or your own VPS gives you more control, lower cost at scale, and full data ownership. We advise on the right approach based on your team's technical capacity and budget.
Can you migrate our WordPress content to Strapi?
Yes. We export WordPress content via the REST API or direct database export, map it to equivalent Strapi content types, and import it — preserving slugs and setting up 301 redirects to protect your SEO equity. The complexity depends on your content volume and custom field structure. We scope migrations individually after the discovery call.
How does Strapi integrate with Next.js?
Strapi delivers content via REST or GraphQL. A Next.js frontend fetches content at build time (Static Site Generation) or on-demand (Server-Side Rendering / ISR) using the Strapi API. We typically use ISR for content-heavy sites — pages regenerate automatically on publish via a Strapi webhook, giving you static performance with live content. We wire up the full integration as a standard deliverable.
How long does a Strapi CMS project take to build?
A standard Strapi + Next.js marketing site takes 3–5 weeks. A multi-locale CMS with custom content types and complex permissions takes 6–9 weeks. Enterprise builds with multiple integrations and custom admin sections take 10–14 weeks. We provide a firm timeline and milestone dates in the written proposal.
How much does a Strapi build cost?
A standard Strapi CMS build starts from £4,500. An advanced multi-locale CMS with custom plugins and integrations starts from £8,000. Enterprise-scale builds start from £14,000. All quotes are flat — no hourly billing. We send a written quote within 24 hours of a free discovery call.
Do you require a deposit for Strapi projects?
No. We work on a milestone payment model — you pay at agreed project checkpoints, only after reviewing and approving each deliverable. No deposit, no prepayment. This is our standard for every project.
